Earlier today I lost the ability to quick save or auto save (i.e. I would quick save/auto save and then open up the load menu and there would be nothing there). I tried saving the game manually and had luck with that, as those saves persisted after I opened and closed the game a few times. Then I was even able to quick save again, so I figured it was just a bug that had gone away.
Later tonight, after many hours of dungeon crawling, I tried to quick save before going to bed but discovered that it once again wasn't working. So, I manually saved over the last save I had and then exited the game. After reopening the game and trying to load this most recent save just to double check, I realized that it had disappeared, and the most recent one after that was from several weeks ago. In a panic, I opened up my saved games folder and sure enough, all of the saves are still there (including all the quick saves that hadn't been sticking).
I've tried to open my most recent saves in the console (with: load "save name"), but nothing happens. What can I do about this? I'm level 65 and honestly I feel like I'm just going to quit playing if I have to go so many weeks back.
tl;dr I can't load any of my recent saved games because they don't show up on the load menu, even though I can see them in my saved game folder along with all the others that do show up.
Edit: I figured it out. Apparently what I needed to do was open up my saved games folder and then delete the '.tmp' at the end of the file, leaving ".ess" as the only ending. No idea what's going on, but that makes it show up in the load menu.
