So recently, my friends and I had gotten back in to Skyrim, after not having played it for a while. After a while, we asked each other what our favorite city was. My reply was Markarth, because of the amazing view that you have from Vindrel Hall, and the "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure" book you can find there (It is called "Kovold and the Dragon" I think). Immediately my friends said that Markarth was one of the worst cities.

So my question is, why is Markarth considered to be such a bad city?
