Alright, I wanna take this opportunity to talk about one of my favourite characters, Richard Melior, after rereading Resurrection. He's one of the earliest Neoterics we see in the series, and arguably the strongest. And I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you all why.
He's a Neoteric Vitakinetic, and he has two additional abilities he can use outside of the traditional repairing of wounds. The first one is a fairly bland energy wave, but the second one puts him in the high ranks of the world. He can resurrect people.
By sacrificing some life force, he can return people from the grave back to the land of the living, a feat that's only ever been copied by the king of the dead, a necromancer blessed by a race of gods of death. Which is damn impressive if you think about it. But I think this is why his aura is a different shade to the orange you see in most others. His neoteric magic is a corruption of Vitakineticism and Necromancy, giving him a blend of both, and the most powerful parts of both, too. His aura is noticeably different because he's combining two disciplines in one, without being magically ambidextrous. And I, for one, think that's pretty cool.
