Go to r/recruitinghell and you’ll be glad you’re a tradesman. You’d be competing with people who have more experience and degrees for those entry level jobs so it’s all a game of luck or having connections. You’d be stagnant for a veeery long time like most of us office jockeys.
Oh no, I was the young energetic maverick systems engineer that kept the whole show running for 3 senior engineers that had combined over 100 years on the job. I made their job easy, and they left me alone and kept corporate from hassling me.
But we were a legacy media company that was making cuts year after year after year... It became obvious to me after a great acid trip that I had to get out while I still had time.

I spent 10 years in an office before going to the trades. I was making $75k at 25, and $110k at 30 with a big promotion on the way when I walked away.
9 years later I still don't miss the air-conditioning... I was spending every day of my life year round in the same climate controlled server rooms... By the time I quit I was basically spending half my time daydreaming about how to take out the building like the end of fight club...
I'll never work for a big corporation again. I got to witness the banality of evil first hand.
Now I get to work outside almost everyday, I love the heat in the summer, I love the cold in the winter. I feel so much more connected with nature...
