Hi guys!
I've been considering doing some brief online presentations on how to do your own basic forecasts and then do additional presentations/Q&A sessions based on various weather phenomena, but I wanted to gauge interest before moving forward with it.
Let me know what your thoughts are and if you would be interested in something like this!
A bit about me- (So you know that I'm not just some idiot off the street pretending to know about weather)
I regularly post about weather in /r/Denver and have become known as the /r/Denver weather guy (special flair and all!).
I obtained my meteorology degree at MSU Denver and where I was awarded "Outstanding scholar in meteorology". I have worked for 5 years at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado researching winter weather and the hazards that it presents to aviation. My work at NCAR has included improving weather model microphysics, writing weather detection algorithms, testing new atmospheric instrumentation, and developing new aviation products and models. I also serve on the American Meteorological Society’s Measurements Committee.
Recently I decided my life wasn't hard enough and enrolled as a PhD candidate at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. My thesis is centered on snowpack energetics and the effects that living and dead snowgum trees have on snow melt in the Australian Alps.
I am also a severe weather enthusiast that storm chases in my free time. Generally, the goal is tornadoes, but great storm structure is always a treat as well. One of my fellow PhD students has enlisted my help to storm chase with our mobile x-band radar here in Australia as well to help him collect hail data. So, I guess that you could say that I do it part time professionally, but since it's not my project I'm going to maintain that I'm an amateur.
Anyway, please feel free to ask any questions and let me know your thoughts on the possible forecasting workshops.
Thanks!
