Grip it and rip it origin

Was "grip it and rip it" originally a skateboard saying? Or a golfer's saying? I always associate it with Toy Machin from the 90's, but I heard it was John Daly from golf. Any one have any info on the origin of the term? I was really disappointed to learn it might actually be from golf, so I'm hoping someone can debunk this. Thanks!
