Not sure if this is a controversial discussion or nah, but here it is: What are some changes that the remakes did that made the storyline much more interesting?

I just want to make it clear that the OG has by far the most flawless script and has the most effective narrative execution of them all, and these "changes" won't necessarily make the series better had OG thought of it first. It worked out perfectly well in its own. This is just me nitpicking on what is otherwise known as a treasure. And since the showrunners decided to end it after 4 seasons, they didn't have any room left to explore further arcs. But I want to delve into some changes that you think made the storyline a bit more interesting in the remakes. Surely you can think of one, I wanna here your thoughts. Here's mine:

SKAM France:

  • Giving Arthur (Mahdi in OG) a season - Skam is really good at leaving no stones unturned in terms its characters' stories, with the exception of Mahdi. The guy didn't even get his own segment in the last episode, at least Magnus had somewhat of a significant role in s3. As part of the boy squad, he should've had a small spotlight. Thank heavens for season 5. It turned out to be one of my top-tier seasons in the skamverse (debatable). Plus, Alexia (Chris in OG) was also given more room for character dev in this season, she was the most unexplored character in the OG girl squad.
  • Merging the girl and boy squad from s3 and beyond - In most adaptations, these two groups were separate entities, they occasionally go to parties together but that's about it. I just love how this addition brought a "Friends" vibe to their dynamics, a lot of them are really close with each other and somehow have entangled relationships with one another. This can be summed up in one scene at the beginning of season 6 when Lola returned to school after her mother's death and everyone immediately jumped to her side when they saw her. This scene made me legit cry.

Druck:

  • Expanding Kiki's role (Vilde in OG) in s2 - Vilde is one of my fave characters in the skamverse. But by expanding her role in s2, even though she wasn't the central character on this one, added so much more layer to who she is as a person. This I think is the most we can get from her since she will never get a season of her own in any remakes (unless your counting her quasi-leading role in her sister's season), but I absolutely adored her in this remake.

SKAM Austin:

  • Integrating Megan's alcoholism (Eva in OG) after s1 - One of the problems I had with the Eva character is that she was written off as "that drunk friend" after s1. Whereas, they've managed to continue Noora's and Isak's storyline up to season 4. This is also evident in most remakes. In Austin, it was hinted that Megan was dealing with this obvious issue of hers, which was largely ignored in a lot of adaptations. It's just a shame that we will never see the light of this plot to a larger extent since it's already cancelled. Honorable mention to dividing the Isak counterpart into two characters, that was a great addition too!

SKAM Italia:

  • Including Martino's (Isak in OG) mom in s2 - Because of the switcheroo in seasons 2 and 3, Martino didn't move out of his house yet. This allowed his mom, who I think is an integral part of Isak's story, to have more screen time in the season, she was really only shown in one or no scenes at all in most adaptations. This gave as a means to explore his relationship with her on a bigger scale. That scene close to the end of the season where he was contemplating on joining his father's family on christmas says a lot about where he stands with his relationship with his mom.

WTFock:

  • Keeping Senne (William in OG) after s2 - Boy did this surprise me. William was one of the most hated character pre and post s2. I loved how he played a fundamental role on how Robbe changed his mind abour Sander when they had that sweet little conversation. This provided us a greater depth to his character arc, it's one of my favorite changes.

Note: I have yet to watch Espana and NL though I heard a lot of good reviews with regards to the changes they made there. Looking forward on those two. Until then I'd like to hear your thoughts on those or any other opinions and additions in the remakes.
