Cruel bigs, was it difficult for you to accept that you enjoyed being mean/rough?

I'm curious how people that enjoy playing the role of a cruel big got to a place of acceptance. As someone who enjoys being on the receiving end of cruelty I didn't have to vault that hurdle of enjoying others pain/humiliation (even if imaginative).
I can imagine it can be difficult to come to terms with that, but I also wonder if the reality is it wasn't too hard for you to just go "Eh, it's make believe. No harm, no foul" so to speak.
