Your eyebrows furrow as you find what looks to be a piece of paper torn from a pocket notebook. How did that get in there? Did one of the neighbors leave that for you? As you look closer, you notice what appears to be small hand writing on the page. You have to squint in order to make out the text before you.

Hello! I assume that you are the master of the castle. The one who owns and operates this fine home.

Okay, that was corny. Let me level with you: I'm a tiny. I found myself about 6 inches tall not too long ago. Other tinies I have met have suggested that I live the borrower lifestyle; that normal people won't notice if they lose a few crumbs. To tell you the truth, I feel a bit uncomfortable with the notion of stealing from strangers, no matter how bad my situation may get.

I also know that it's not wise to just show up in someone's house. I'd rather not be accused of breaking and entering. I'd rather not trip up on a random mousetrap. And I'd certainly like to not be held captive as a commodity. I've heard some... Grim stories about what happens to people like me who get too bold in the wrong house.

That being said, the reason I'm writing this note, and the reason I plan to try and scale your mailbox to put it there, is so that I can ask your permission. Can we please discuss some kind of arrangement for food and shelter? Are there any chores I can hope to do for you to earn some scraps? I don't eat much anymore. I won't be here long. I promise I'll leave as soon as you want me to.

If you don't want me around, I won't protest. I'll be on my way. All I ask is that you return the note you're reading now. I might not find some perfectly good paper and graphite in the street again for a long, long time. I'll be waiting for your answer on the ground outside your door. Meet me there at noon. It'll take me some time and energy to cross your front yard again. :D
