I think hobbies tell you so much about a person! As a Professional HobbyistTM I come home with a new hobby every few weeks and enjoy diving in headfirst and biting off wayyyyy too much.
I think really what I love the most though is seeing the types of person that a hobby attracts. Watching videos, listening to podcasts, and reading subreddits - slowly identifying what type personality seems drawn to any one specific hobby.
I was sitting playing Civ6 - perhaps the only 'hobby' I've ever stuck with long term (I will smoke you at Civ - you've been warned) and realized it would be impossible to play if I was 2 inches tall. That got me wondering what hobbies I would have as a tiny!
Here was the list I came up with!
- Insect identification - there are tons of small bugs that live in our homes. It would be such a cool hobby to wander around and slowly create a list of everything living in your home (while hopefully not running into anything too dangerous).
- Gardening - having a small pot with a single flower or plant to tend for. It would be almost like caring for a room sized terrarium because at that size you'll learn to notice all the little bugs and other things that call that plant home!
- Single ply thread knitting/macrame - normal yarn would be far too big, but if you're a tiny in the 2-6 inch range I think you could figure out how to use single ply thread as a substitute!
- Inventing - it's hard adapting to fit in a tiny world, but that's where ingenuity comes in! I think in a world with tinies in it you'd have loads of them become expert tinkers and inventors always looking for a new project to tackle!
What are some hobbies or activities that you think you'd pick up if you were to be a tiny or giant(ess)? Are there any hobbies you currently have that you couldn't do and would miss?
If you're a "giant" that likes to stay normal while others shrink - what are some hobbies you do now and how would you adapt them to the existence of tinies in your life?
As an aside - special thanks to the partners that put up with us Professional HobbyistsTM. When I walk in the door with a new hobby my partner just smiles and lets me blab about all the cool things I'm gonna do - knowing I'll accomplish none of them and forget all about this in two weeks. Y'all are saints for dealing with us <3
