I'm partially basing this on my love-hate relationship with the manga, Chieri's Love Is Eight Meters Tall. I enjoy the series a lot, but I do wish the characters were more interesting. Also that it had less objectifying people, both men and women, but one thing at a time. Here's my pitch for the series in question.
There's a young woman. Right? Totally normal, except that she's a giantess. I don't know how it happened. I just know it's uncommon, like Eight Meters. Bear with me. This girl was already a bit quiet and awkward before transforming, but now she's super self conscious all the time. She's always super careful about not breaking anything or anyone. Despite that, she can't seem to find anyone who is willing to just hang out with her. Like a normal person would.
People either have that whole lion-in-the-room affect going on, or they're just asking her not to hurt them. Once in a while she'll get somebody asking her to step on them or swallow them. She has no idea how to respond to that, so she simply awkwardly shuffles away. This also backfires on her because her general aloof nature makes it so that people think that she believes she's better than them. So now they like her even less. She can go weeks at a time without anyone saying 3 consecutive words to her.
Enter the main protagonist. If were following the route of Eight Meters, he's the guy who will eventually be named caretaker for her. Or whatever his job is in canon. The reason they meet here is because he sees her sitting alone in the park. Most of the people in the park vacated as soon as she came in.
He thinks that she looks a little lonely and sad. So he just walks right up to her. "Hey, is this seat taken?" They chat for a little while. At some point she works up the courage to ask him if he's afraid of her. He replies: "What's there to be scared of?" Then in a goofy voice, he says: "Hey. You see that especially tall person over there? Don't talk to her - don't even look at her! She might... Be a little better at basketball than you are."
And the story just unfolds from there. It's even sweeter if the guy is also super self conscious about himself and can only be this confident around her and a few close friends. Maybe eventually they do figure out the fun stuff with giant stuff. I could imagine some camera shots if this were adapted into a show. Like a side shot close up of her forehead while he's massaging her temples. He goes to a store and buys several gallons worth of nail polish so she can feel pretty one night. Her holding him in her arms at night and staring up at the stars with him.
It's not much, but it's a dynamic I really like. Thoughts?
