1. Play Style

a) Overview

Spell order: Q>E>Q>W>... Max R>Q>E>W

Summoner spells: Teleport/Ghost - Teleport/Flash - Ignite/Ghost - Exhaust/Ghost (personal preference)

Q: Remember to turn this on before you enter a fight, even the most experienced Singed players forget to toggle it on sometimes. Also, don't spam Q in early game unless you are in a fight. Use auto attack on minions if you can. Your Q isn't turned off when you are cc-ed.

W: Use W on enemy carry to ground them. Only fling them right before W disappears, so they can't flash or jump away from you. W also stops Camille Q, Yi Q, Darius R, Ekko R and Zed R (second cast).

E: Don't spam fling as it costs a lot of mana in early game. You can fling enemy into W which roots them for 1-2 seconds. Also, you can perform an auto attack (i.e. skyauto) while enemy is being flinged. This is very crucial in early trade. You may consider using fling to peel your carries, rather than flinging enemy carries.

R: Don't hesitate to use it, especially if you have ultimate hat. Singed is a bit squishy until his 3rd item is completed. His ultimate is treated as a potion, which triggers Time Wrap (rune).

b) Melee, but not so melee

Singed is the most unique champion in LoL. You are a melee bruiser but you don't fight like a melee bruiser. When you decide to trade with an enemy, you always want to withdraw from a fight immediately after you deal poison damage on enemy.

Since you don't have CC/shields/heals comparing to other bruisers in early game, you are very likely to lose a trade if you don't keep a distance away from the source of damage (depends on match ups and your experience). Also, remember that your Q deals damage over time. You don't have burst!

Don't spam fling to save mana. Only use fling on enemy when enemy is under your turret, or you have a high chance of winning a trade, or you need to escape, or you are making a W fling combo.

c) Proxy or Lane

You ONLY go proxy for several reasons

(1) you want to avoid enemy's early aggression since you are weak before level 6.

(2) you want enemy to miss cs under turret.

(3) you want to take perfect cs and make an early recall for items

(4) you want to attract enemy jungler, so you can win 1 vs 2, or your jungler can counter-jungle, or free up mid and bot pressure.

(5) you want to roam, so you clear the wave quickly by proxying.

Otherwise you are giving enemy the opportunity to farm up and out-scale you. For example, proxying against Nasus is not a good idea, because Nasus is an easy matchup for Singed and Nasus has no issue of farming under turret. However, you may consider proxying against GP, because GP can easily zone you away from cs with his Q and barrels. You go proxy because it increases your chance of winning, not because it sounds funny (well, you can do it in normal if you want).

You start proxying by catching the 1st wave between outer and inner turret. You should move slowly so minions are grouped together and stay in your poison trail. Also, turn off your Q when minions is poisoned, toggle it again 2 seconds later. This saves a lot of mana.

You should also move in a zic-zac way to avoid some minions aggro, so you can stay healthy. Only use your first potion after first wave is cleared. Dark seal passive usually overheals you. Then, WARD THE BUSH NEAR RED BUFF IMMEDIATELY. After that, catch the 2nd wave between inner and inhib turret, so you can execute yourself quicker when enemies are approaching.

Recall or execute after the 3rd wave in order to buy a 350g item. That’s your early spike. Also remeber that execution only happens when you are not damaged by enemy for 13 seconds.

d) Full Tank, AP Bruiser, or Full AP

Korean Singed Mains prefer full tank build, while most Singed Mains from other regions prefer AP bruiser build.

Why should we build full tank? You can dive under a turret with no risk in early game. You build RG as a core item to keep picking enemy carries. You have room for mistakes since it's hard to kill you and even you die a lot, tank items are cheaper to purchase. It requires no brain to play full tank singed, since RG R W Ghost = free win in teamfight. Good for beginners and team-oriented players.

Why shouldn't we build full tank? You need an early lead, because you will be outscaled at 25-30 minutes. If you have a trash team, you are fucked. You have to be team-oriented, aka fling bot. You need to roam mid and teleport a lot to help carry your carries, thus weaker laning presence.

Why should we build AP bruiser? You can build Rylai's or/and Liandry's, which really suits with Singed's play style. It's more snowballing than full tank, since your mid game damage output is decent. You can still win against a scaling champion before 3rd item is completed.

Why shouldn't we build AP bruiser? Because teammates are likely to pick squishy champions and expect you to be full tank on Singed. You are likely to bear some frontline responsibilities while you are squishy as fuck before the completion of 3-4th item. Also, building full tank is better when you are behind.

Why should we build full AP? Enemies probably don't expect that you can 1 shot enemy carry with electrocute and fling. It's super fun. You win almost all of the 1v1 trade in late game, even against Camille and Nasus lmao. Or, you are probably frustrated that enemy has more damage than you can tank. AP seems to be the only way to go.

Why shouldn't we build full AP? Enemies are likely to camp you so you don't have enough gold to build AP. Teammates are likely to flame you especially if you fail to pull the trigger. You will be melt in team fight too.

2. Summoner Spells

a) Ghost

The purpose of Ghost is to outrun people - pick enemy carries and force people to chase you.

What you want to achieve with Ghost:

  1. Side step enemy ganks and CCs (take flash agaisnt J4)
  2. Gives you huge potential to outplay in 1 vs 2 scenario.
  3. Gives you huge potential to catch enemy carries with RG and your ultimate (but Oriana still outruns you…).
  4. Gives you huge potential to dive enemy laners under turret.
  5. Give you huge potential to roam.
  6. Ghost feels more natural than Flash, since it synergies with Singed passive and his play style.

b) Flash

The purpose of Flash is to surprise enemy. If enemy has tons of CC and their carries position themselves well, you will prefer Flash.

You usually use flash aggressively (except against J4 ultimate); otherwise ghost is more effective.

What you want to achieve with Flash:

  1. Flash forward to outplay enemy CCs such as stun/slow effect.
  2. Flash forward to surprise-fling enemy carries into your W. This can win a teamfight on the spot even if enemy has his Flash ready.
  3. Flash forward to surprise-fling enemy laner to your turret for first blood.
  4. Flash forward to apply slow in teamfight instantly with RG/Rylai's.
  5. Flash away from Jarvan R or Yorick W
  6. Flash away from tons of CC in teamfight.
  7. To show off your bronzie NA flash in ranked games.

People say taking flash against Jarvan is a waste. I don’t agree. My experience tells me that you can trade more aggressively against Jarvan and less likely to die to ganks if you take flash. Again, it’s up to you.

c) Teleport

The purpose of teleport is to provide global pressure for your team and catch up early farms.

What you want to achieve with Teleport:

  1. You want to teleport to lane for sustain/exp if you are against hard matchup.
  2. You want to teleport to lane for wave clearing and protecting turrets.
  3. You want to teleport to mid or bot lane if they engage in a fight.
  4. You want to roam, since you can just teleport to lane immediately after roaming.
  5. You want to match enemy teleport which offsets enemy top/mid laner's global pressure.
  6. You want to split push in the lane where the closest objective is not being contested, you can teleport to baron/dragon/turrets if team fight starts.

d) Ignite

The purpose of ignite is to provide lane pressure.

What you want to achieve with Ignite:

  1. You don't know how to use teleport, so you take ignite.
  2. You want to get first blood at level 2.
  3. You want to destroy champions with heals, such as Fiora, Nasus and Tryndamere.
  4. You want to turn harder matchups into easy matchups and dominate the lane with ease.
  5. You want to encourage your jungler to camp top - higher chance of kill secured.

However, ignite also encourages enemy jungler to camp you. Assuming you are dead in level 2/3, if the enemy laner doesn't die and is pushing the wave towards your turret, you will lose so much CS/Exp, aka RIP your early game.

e) Exhaust

What you want to achieve with Exhaust:

  1. Impairs enemy ganks
  2. A very good baiting tool
  3. Very effective against Auto Attack reliant champions (Irelia, Yasuo, etc), since Press The Attack rune will deal insane damage.

3. Runes

There are a lot of viable options for Singed now. Just please, don't take Precision as your primary path...(how can attack speed stats help you bro?)

Meta Aftershock - Bone Plating/Demolish - Second Wind/Conditioning - Unflinching - Ultimate Hat - Celerity

Aftershock path is always the safest option as it gives resistance once you fling an enemy. Its AoE damage is also decent. Grasp of Undying isn't as good, because you have to auto attack enemy in order to be effective. The heal is not comparable to the resistance given by Aftershock.

Bone Plating absorbs a lot of poke damage, or damage in a trade.

Demolish is better if you aim for first blood turret; otherwise Second Wind gives you better sustain in lane.

Unflinching is a must, because tenacity is the best stats for Singed. Consider how often Singed uses his summoner spells, the tenacity bonus is always on you.

Ultimate Hat reduces your ultimate cooldown. This allows you to roam more often or play aggressively in lane. Nullifying Orb is also a decent option if you want more survivability in lane. Manaband Flow is a noob trap, it has less utility than the two former runes. If you have mana issues, you should avoid spamming Q and E. Use auto to kill minions whenever it is possible. Also remember that Q deals damage over time for 2 seconds. You don’t need to toggle it forever in a fight. If you can't manage your mana well, go back to base for extra Dark Seal or Corrupting Potion when you have 350g (which is 3 waves of gold).

Celerity synergies with your passive and ultimate which gives extra damage. Extra movement speed also increases your survivability in ganks or in team fight.

More Harass in lane Aerie - Ultimate Hat - Celerity - Scorch - Bone Plating - Unflinching

Aerie is always a better choice, consider you are guaranteed at least 2 Aerie hits on enemy with your poison. Comet is not optimal, since your fling will cause you miss the comet. Phase Rush may not be necessary, since you already have lots of movement speed stats in your department.

Ultimate Hat - see above.

Celerity - see above.

Scorch is the choice since you have no other better options. Gathering Storm is a noob trap. It's only effective after 20:00 but Singed thrives in early to mid game. It doesn’t help your laning or roaming at all. Also Singed has a bad win rate after 35min (less than 50%)

More Surprise, Snowballing Spell Book - Footwear - Market/Dematerialiser - Time Wrap - Ultimate Hat - Celerity

Spell Book allows you to take ignite and then switchs back to teleport later. The summoner spell cooldown reduction is also valuable, therefore you always have ignite or exhaust on your hand against your opponent. Glacial is a mini-Rylai in early game. It also synergies with Righteous Glory. However it has less value than Spellbook as you don't really need the early slow from Glacial with your passive speed boost. It's your personal preference.

Magic Footwear gives a free boot with 10 extra movement speed (300g). The only bad thing is that you can't rush boot in your first/second recall. Perfect Timing is less effective now as it can only be activated at 10:00. That's too late. But it can be very useful when you save it for a team fight later. Hex Flash - no please.

Future's Market is never a bad option since you can rush both Corrupting Potion (if you didn't take footwear) and Boot after first recall. It also gives an item advantage when you can complete Rylai or Righteous Glory 2 minutes earlier. Meanwhile, Minion Dematerialiser* gives you insane wave clear in lane or in proxy, so you are free to roam. This is a headache to your enemy as they can't match up your wave clearing speed. Biscuit Delivery is good for beginners, but the value is low and doesn't help you a lot in your game play.

Time Wrap gives extra movement speed when you are using potion. It also increases your potion duration. Comic Insight is always good if you want more cooldown reduction on abilities, item actives and summoner spells. Approach Velocity may be good if you need extra 10% movement speed, but it only triggers when enemy is impaired by you.

Domination - Electrocute (for full AP), Predator, Cheap Shot, Zombie Ward, Ravenous Hunter

4. Itemizations
Full Tank Righteous Glory - Tier-2 Boot - ZZ'Rot - 3 tank items (Knight's Vow, Aegis, Zeke, Banner, Warmog, Dead Man, Omen, Thornmail, Adaptive, Visage)
AP Bruiser Rylai - Tier-2 Boot - Liandry - 3 tank items
Full AP Rylai - Tier-2 Boot - Liandry - 3 ap items (Morellonomicon, Shurelya, Zhonyas, Protobelt, Void Staff, Banshee)

a) Starting Items

1) A typical start is Dark Seal (350g) and Refillable Potion (150g). Dark Seal will increase healing from any potions. Also it has a high resell value. You may consider stacking 2-3 dark seals until you have enough gold for better items.

2) Dorans Ring (400g) is another option. It gives HP and decent mana sustain. It is a safer option than Dark Seal, but you are forced to buy 2 consumable red potions instead of a refillable potion. Its resell value is low, thus cannot be stacked.

3) Corrupting potion (refillable 350g) may be decent in circumstance where you want to trade a lot in first 3 levels, since it gives you damage, mana and extra healing. Otherwise Dark Seal or Droans Ring are better options.

b) Boots

1) Mercury Threads - 1200g. Rush it when you are against AP match up. Even if you are against AD match up, you may consider Mercury Threads instead if you are versus enemy teams which have tons of CC. For example, against Maokai, Sejuani and Braum.

2) Ninja Tabi - 1200g. Rush it when you are against AD match up. Even if you are against AP match up, you may consider Ninja Tabi instead if you are versus enemy with 4 AD. It basically means 10% damage reduction against them.

3) Boot of Swiftness - 900g. It's very cheap, but you lack resistance and your team expects you to bear some front line responsibilities,.

4) Sorcery's Shoe - 1100g. Deal decent damage, but again, you are squishy. Build it if you really want to.

c) Tank/Utility Items

1st item (Armour) Righteous Glory 2650g. For roaming. Rush it before tier-2 boot.
2nd-4th (Armour/MR) ZZ'Rot Portal 2700g. For roaming, diving and split-pushing. MS bonus passive near turrets.
2nd-4th (Armour/MR) Banner of Command 2200g. For split-pushing. Similar to ZZ'Rot, but it's better against AP-heavy team.
2nd-4th (Armour/MR) Ohmwrecker 2650g. For free turret diving. It's fun.
2nd-4th (Armour/MR) Aegis of Solari 2200g. If your support doesn't build it, you build it.
3rd-4th (Armour/MR) Gargoyle Stoneplate 2500g. You become too tanky. Personal preference.
3rd-4th (Armour/MR) Zeke's Convergence 2250g. Casting your ultimate near your Conduit grant you a FROST storm which slows enemies within, and your Conduit's basic attacks gain FIRE bonus damage. If an enemy is both struck by FROST and FIRE, your FROST storm ignites and becomes FROSTFIRE which deals extra damage and doubled amount of slow for 3 seconds.
3rd-4th (Armour) Knight's Vow 2200g. For supporting carries.
3rd-6th (Armour) Dead Man's Plate 2900g. For chasing potential. MS bonus and slow applied when you attack.
3rd-6th (Armour) Randuin's Omen 2900g. For AOE slow, crit reduction.
3rd-6th (Armour) Thornmail 2900g. For grievous wound which reduces heal of enemy life steal.
3rd-6th (Armour) Frozen Heart 2700g. For AOE attack speed slow, which triggers Liandry doubled burning damage.
3rd-6th (MR) Spirit Visage 2800g. For extra healing from ultimate, or when you are idling.
3rd-6th (MR) Adaptive Helm 2800g. Better than Visage if you are against AP team.
3rd-6th (MR) Abyssal Mask 2900g. A balance between damage and MR.
3rd-4th (MR) Quicksilver Sash 1300g. It is too expensive, only build it against Malzahar or enemy team has tons of CC.
4th-6th (HP) Warmog's Armour 2850g. If you lack HP from your items, build Warmog.

d) AP Items

1st Rylai 2600g. Almost compulsory, the AoE slow with Q is too strong.
2nd Liandry 3100g. Synergise with Liandry, less burst damage now, but stronger in long fight and against enemy with high HP.
- Morellonomicon 3000g. For magic penetration and grievous wound which reduces heal of enemy life steal.
- Shurelya 2100g. For movement speed and CDR. Very very gold efficient.
- Hourglass 2900g. For absorbing damage in team fight or baiting enemy.
- Protobelt 2500g. For escape, engage, wave-clearing.
- Void Staff 2650g. For magic penetration, a very very gold efficient item.
- Banshee's Veil 3000g. For high-CC and AP damage scenarios.
- Twins Shadow 2400g. For For escape, engage.
- Spellbinder 2800g. For escape, engage, burst.
- Deathcap 3600g. For exerting your dominance over enemy carries, with your 1 shot fling.
1st Rod of Age 2700g. Not as optimal, since Singed prefers items with instant impact. There are also items which do a better job than RoA, e.g. Abyssal Mask.

6. Other tips

Tracking the Jungler is key for proxy

To be safe during proxy you need enemy jungler bot or you have ult and you think you can 2v1 or escape. In between waves, stay active; ward, gank mid or start a recall in case you decide you want to bail. If you think someone is coming while you're farming, take tower shots so that 1 more tower shot will kill you; this way you can attempt to recall and then execute in under 1.5 seconds; this baits people to waste their time and possible burn flash to reach you in time (or just execute without trying to recall).

Ranged matchups

You may hide in bushes, when you need to CS- throw your W on them and act like you're going to trade but then just push the wave; most of the time they'll back off.

General Baron strategy

Singed baron play after 25 minutes: Singed pushes/distracts bot lane, have team camp baron and wait for 2-3 enemies to chase Singed in bot before they rush into baron.

Back off baron the second we see someone coming and run away or fight. Ping the escape route the whole team should take. Only stay on baron if it is below 20% hp, 2000 HP (At 30min, baron 8200HP, 20% = about 1500 HP). After baron recall, we might have our ults on CD and have money to spend. Baron basic attacks apply debuff that reduces armor and magic resistance by 0.5, stacking 100 times, total of 50 max reduction. The enemy could have item/ult/HP/Armor/MR advantage.

Some Singed Mains' Rant

I feel like telling my team to tower dive anytime I have ult gives me a better chance that a teammate will follow up. Maybe just low elo but players ping caution way to much when you could be steamrolling people (ReignRagnar, 2018).

Enemy top laner building Banner of Command

If enemy builds banner of command to counter your wave clearing, it is better to roam mid or bot to pressure for first blood. While your cs and experience may suffer a bit, this will nullify the effect of banner of command and your teammates are likely to have a lead if you play it correctly. You may also build a Banner of Command to counter against enemy top laner if his main source of damage is magic damage.
