If you were a boss of a company - would u really hire a local (SG) over an FT for a position ?

Post Body

if all skills equal (let's say we're finding a software engineer), would u take a local ?

i could think of the following 'cons' if u hired a local

  1. ICT for guys
  2. child care/parent care/etc leaves
  3. maternity leave for ladies
  4. might not be willing to work 5.5days/on standby 24/7
  5. might not accept a low salary scale
  6. might not accept low AL

I think you prob end up needing to hire a 'back up' to fill in for all the time away from the job if u got a local. where as if u got an FT, he can prob work 5.5 days 24/7 standby and all for minimum wage ($4k/mth). Heck, u might not even need to give him AWS.

No, and I have hiring authority and do this regularly. It has nothing to do with these 6 reasons. It has everything to do with EQ. I dual list all positions in HK and SG and regularly hire in Hong Kong for this reason specifically.

I am talking about 10k jobs here.
