if all skills equal (let's say we're finding a software engineer), would u take a local ?
i could think of the following 'cons' if u hired a local
- ICT for guys
- child care/parent care/etc leaves
- maternity leave for ladies
- might not be willing to work 5.5days/on standby 24/7
- might not accept a low salary scale
- might not accept low AL
I think you prob end up needing to hire a 'back up' to fill in for all the time away from the job if u got a local. where as if u got an FT, he can prob work 5.5 days 24/7 standby and all for minimum wage ($4k/mth). Heck, u might not even need to give him AWS.
No, and I have hiring authority and do this regularly. It has nothing to do with these 6 reasons. It has everything to do with EQ. I dual list all positions in HK and SG and regularly hire in Hong Kong for this reason specifically.
I am talking about 10k jobs here.
