Why does our society place so much emphasis on being productive after the work day is over? What's wrong with not seeking out new hobbies and simply being OK with coming home from work, cooking dinner, and kicking it for the rest of the night?
Post Body

I am not one who "lives to work," in fact I'm quite the opposite. I work to be able to put food in my belly and travel to new places once or twice a year (pre-covid, ofc). But outside of traveling I don't feel much of a desire to come home from work and try to "better myself." I make a good salary, I have an excellent S/O whom I love, we eat healthy and stay in shape, and we both crave relaxation. Yet, we still can't shake the internal anxiety that we shouldn't be wasting our time in the evenings after work.

Evolutionarily speaking, our job is to acquire food and reproduce. We've accomplished the first goal and have made a conscious decision to skip the second. So what's wrong with being content and relaxing each and every night?

My dad (a programmer for 25 years) does this too! And it’s baffling to me because as much as I love programming I just can’t see myself doing it for 8 hours a day and then coming home and doing it for another 8 :( but it also feels like that’s the only way you get any better at it
