Linking desktop to Signal

I uninstalled Signal from both my iPhone and my windows laptop. When I reinstalled it on my phone it retained my data--I was still in all my chats, etc. When I install it on the app and it brings up the QR code I scan it, my phone vibrates like it does when a QR code is successfully scanned, but then the app on my phone closes and nothing happens on my laptop. Any ideas??
