This has been seriously making me reconsider using Signal. I know my parents would be more than happy to move to Whatsapp. I have an older iPhone, so I need to reset it every so often to make it run better. However, I lose chat history every time and it's annoying when I need to access some old messages that have important information. Do we have a timeline for when this happen? Will it happen? Sorry if this is a common topic in the sub.
If you have a Mac of some kind, you can retrieve chat history. Or it was possible in the past, idk about now (I switched to Linux a while back). I'm not sure if it's possible on another platform. But if you're thinking about switching to Signal, I wouldn't really hesitate. I've been using it for years and it works just fine. Plus it's more secure, and you can still have it synced up on different devices you use.

Yeah it's not a secure option at all. I would go telegram before I went WA, but I understand a ton of people use it.
In looking through your Mac for the chat history, did you follow Apple's instructions? I'm assuming you did, not insinuating that you didn't, just curious. Like I said, it's been a while since I've had to do it so they may have changed things
