Side hustle for nerd engineer
Post Body

Hello,

I am a nerd engineer (more on this in a moment) who has been looking at potential side hustle ideas. I have a degree in mechanical engineering and 7 years of design engineering experience. I have also played dnd for at least 15 years.

I currently have a full time job so most daytime stuff is out unless its quick and can be done over the phone.

I have been looking for a relatively low hour but high $ side hustle, or at least something with flexible hours and remote.

So far here are some things I have either done or considered.

  • Write a book. About 300 pages into a possible 800 page fantasy novel. Still may finish but unsure as success as an author is low and probably shouldn't be considered a money making venture.

  • Publish a new roleplaying system OR adventures to existing systems. I could easily publish some adventures to the DM's Guild for DnD 5e.

  • Amazon vendor, drop shipping, and reselling pallets of goods. Seems to be a low $/hour side hustle with a high hour commitment for any real money.

Right now I am leaning toward some sort of design engineer contractor position or publish adventures on DM Guild. Anyone have any experience with this or have some insight? Very much open to suggestion.

EDIT: I have looked at the DMs Guild publishing and would probably rule that out. The $/hr is just so low that doing Uber would probably be more productive. I think something with an engineer bend may be best.
