Hi there, long time lurker!
X-posting for hopefully more help.
I've just got my first pup; he's a Siberian Husky. I spent two years researching the breed so I was absolutely sure I would be committed.
I just wanted a third opinion on a situation regarding knuckling. He's knuckling slightly in his left front leg. When we picked him up, the breeder noticed it and put some compression bandages on his two front legs, said to keep him off hard surfaces and he'd be alright in a few days. After two days we noticed his paws getting quite swollen so we took them off. He yelped when I removed the left bandage but not the right. The breeder said to take him to the vet for a regular checkup (as they ask people to do with all their new pups), They also said to change his diet to chicken broth and boiled carrots instead of the grain-free stuff they had given us. We started him on chicken broth and carrots and went to the vet.
This is where it gets a little frustrating. The vet said the compression bandages were 'very bad' and they said the breeder shouldn't have done that. She says it might be a genetic thing and it could end up requiring surgery but we just have to 'wait and see'. She also said we could try changing his food (but gave nothing super specific other than a brand) and said we might end up having a consultation with an orthopaedic surgeon. The vet also said chicken broth and carrots are no good and he should stick to dry food with knuckling. Naturally the breeder thought the vet was an idiot, called their 30 year experience vet and their vet said two cups a day of the Holistic Select food they provided, with chicken broth and boiled carrots mixed in.
My housemate is a vet nurse and she said to use her company's science diet, but also gave me a number to call and ask for assistance (still gotta do that)
I really just want to give my pup the best care and life I can give him but the information I'm given is so conflicting I have no idea what to do.
Any ideas?
