Autistic / neurodivergent experiences on shrooms

Post Body

I’m autistic and have been using shrooms (both microdosing and macro) for about a year and a half, mostly for therapeutic purposes to explore trauma. It’s been really helpful so far.

Looking specifically for other autistic people’s experiences with shrooms/psychedelics. Although if you’re neurotypical and relate to my experience, I’d love to hear about that too. :)

I get very little in the way of visual effects with shrooms even when my friends do on similar doses. It’s mostly a headspace thing. It feels like my brain is finally taking a break from the otherwise never-ending internal monologue.

The muted visuals surprised me a little, because I’ve always had CEVs and minds-eye visuals on weed (like, just weed) when in a dark room.

I’ve also noticed that weed on its own is often very different now, after using shrooms multiple times. It’s often intensely introspective and can be emotional.

It’s a very psychedelic-type headspace now, without the reduction in ability to function. Kinda neat but not always what I’m looking for.

A nice side effect is that I tend to journal while high (on weed) now, leading to a lot of insights and suppressed emotions being released. Feels like accelerated talk therapy. It’s definitely helped me break some logjams and make more progress in therapy where I previously felt stuck without knowing why I felt that way.

I’ve read other posts here that say similar things and I could ramble forever but curious what my fellow neurodivergent folks experience!
