Could a ~1 year old liquid culture still be viable for a grow?

Post Body
Purchased January 4th of last year. I would say it spent at least half a year in my mini fridge and more recently it's been at room temperature in a dark drawer. Just want to save money as fresh spores would set me back $25.
I do have some agar plates which are also around a year old. Not sure if it would be worth it to maybe test the culture on them? Not too experienced with agar, so I would have to learn.
