Agar plate with colonized grain?
Post Body

Hey y’all- I’m new to agar plates… just learning and what better way to learn than experiment with some cheap plates!?

I just grew some melmacs and tend to love their offspring lucidgates, so I’m assuming I’ll like the melmacs.

I didn’t have the agar plates when I innoculated my two bags, but when I was transferring the spawn to casing I did have them, so I said screw it let’s try this…

Incase neither of the tubs fruited I threw some colonized grain into an agar plate… this is 5 days in and looks like it’s starting to colonize but I’m curious if anyone has reason to suspect the grain will eventually cause contam? Should I slice out a piece that is now colonizing apart from the grain and leave it in another plate?

You may not see in the first pic, because there are 3 visible spots of grain with mycelium growing, but under the tape, you can see the colonization not touching any grain on the underside in picture 2

Any thoughts or guidance shared is appreciated 🙏
