I'm lucky enough to live on a few acres in the Gulf Coast. I've got an orchard, bee hives, chickens, and a garden. I've grown mushrooms on logs before, but would like to put Judith's (that's my cow ) leftovers to work.
Obviously, nature would not have created so many fungi that thrive in bovine dung of we were not meant to use it.
I'm familiar with basic mycology, I have a copy of Mushrooms Demystified (hilarious and scientific masterwork that one), and know how to grow from spawn.
How would I go about doing this though? Inoculate a liquid culture on steamed grain and then transfer to fresh manure? Or pasteurized manure?
My preference would be to utilize nature's own method of inoculation by scattering dry spores onto her feed trough with corn and hay. Then we could passively check the pasture for occasional gifts.
Looking forward to the sage advice. Thanks in advance!
