I started the shrimp tank this Spring, and one by one, slowly, my Ghost Shrimp keep dying. What happens is 1 of them turns white around its joints, and then in 1-2 weeks it dies (SEE PICS). This has happened multiple times, and it doesn't all happen at once. Why does this keep happening? Am I doing something wrong?
If this is CA-related, how do I make sure they get enough Calcium? I put in pieces of a Calcium Carbonate block every once in a while in the Aquaclear, but I'm starting to think it's not enough.
The pH is low 6's. Is that too low for Ghost Shrimp?
When I first got a bunch of Ghost Shrimp, they all got really excited over food. Since then, the biggest ones have died. The ones that are left seem very apathetic towards food, don't move right away when food hits the water and sinks, like the big Ghost Shrimp did. Is something wrong?
Tank Details:
I have a 5.5g with maybe 3 Ghost Shrimp (found a juvenile... adolescent?... very recently too). I also have hundreds of baby snails (Assassins), 1 Zebra Nerite Snail. 0ppm Ammonia, 0ppm Nitrite, low 6's pH. Aquaclear 30, sponge filter, live plants / light, sand. I use Seachem Prime / Stress Guard / Flourish. I feed them: Top Fin Pro Series Algae Thin, Hikari Algae Wafers, and Fluval Bug Bites for Bottomfeeders.
