New 30 gallon caridina setup for future blue bolts. Tips and comments welcome.
Post Body

Set it up over the weekend with RO water. Regular Amazonia aqua soil 9L with a poret sponge filter in the corner and a nice piece of eucalyptus root for landscape (waiting for it to sink).

Added Seed by Aquavitro (seachem) for bacteria to start off the bio filter yesterday. Added some of the scoops of BeeShrimp Mineral gH remineralizer but waiting on my tds pen to ship to add the full amount (I believe itโ€™s around 5 scoops for the 25 gallons in the water column).

So far Iโ€™ve done one 50% water change to clear up the murkyness and some of the ammonia released by the Amazonia substrate.

Did some water testing today โ€”>

kH: 0 gH: 0 pH: 6.4 Ammonia: 0.50 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate:0 ppm

Questions:

  • Am I missing any steps?
  • Should I wait until later when Iโ€™m about to get my shrimp to add the proper amount of remineralizer?
  • Should I do 50% water changes daily for a week to help settle murkyness, root tannins & ammonia?
  • Should I boil the eucalyptus root to help it sink quicker?
