EDIT 2: I'm happy to say that I found a transliteration from a colleague, and also a translation from the German! Here it is for the Stolze-Schrey curious (and thanks to the redditors of this forum for pointing me in the right direction):

Translation of shorthand

However, in the first sense it can only occur in monological language; in intersubjective language only in the second sense. And it follows from this that in a lecture or essay the word must not be used in the first sense.

One does not infer from images, but from a sentence about images; all factual sentences already contain theory, so they are "scientific", not purely phenomological.

apparently meant: explanation in the pre-scientific, phenomenological sense!

EDIT 1: the shorthand is German of some kind, not Pitman as the title conjectured. Thanks for the helpful comments so far!

Howdy folks,

I am a postdoctoral researcher in philosophy at the University of Albert. I am hoping for some help deciphering two short remarks made in (Pitman, I think) shorthand. A closeup and the context in the paper of each shorthand remark is provided below.

These are from the papers of Manley H. Thompson, a longtime professor at the University of Chicago (link). These shorthand remarks are on a graded paper that Thompson wrote as a student of none other than Nobel Laureate and esteemed British philosopher, Bertrand Russell.

If you are able and willing to help with this transcription request, please do let me know, whether here or in a private message, how you would prefer to have your contribution acknowledged in the publication of Thompson's essay! Thanks very kindly.

Yours Truly,

LogicalAtomist
