First, I love Shopify and I also love that it lets my foreign customers see pricing and order totals in their own, familiar currency. That's not a problem. My peeve is that in my order admin screen, it only shows the order details TO ME in the customer's currency. Sure, it shows the final order total in USD along with the conversion rate, but that's not helpful for my bookkeeping. I record my sales using the Quickbooks invoicing system, so each order is recorded in an itemized fashion. Subtotal: 50.00USD, shipping 3.50USD, transaction fee -1.30USD, and I expect it to all total up so the invoice looks exactly like the order details.
By not showing me the itemized order in USD, Shopify forces me to come to a screeching halt in my bookkeeping to try to replicate the conversions to figure out what each line amount is in USD. I used to use online currency conversion tools for that, but since currency exchange rates change daily, or sometimes hourly, it never added up right. Today I finally made a little Excel worksheet where I can plug in the foreign amounts, the exchange rate that Shopfy says they used, and it gives me the USD totals. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THAT!
Fecking hell. I complained about this to Shopify support a while back but they didn't seem to understand the problem. I guess that's fair... they're not a bookkeeping company. But you'd think they'd listen to feedback from customers....
Does this drive anybody else nuts too, or am I just a freak who does my own bookkeeping?
