Now I'm self conscious and paranoid! Is this a shitty tattoo, and if so how might I go about improving it?

Seriously, thank you for this. Preserving the softness of it is really important to me in order to stay true to the meaning of the style it's trying to emulate. I'll absolutely take your suggestions into consideration when I get this touched up, hopefully in the near future!

A lot of well meaning comments suggested adding a dragon or battling samurai (to everyone saying it's Japanese, it's a Chinese watercolor landscape but I can see how they could be confused!), but I think doing so takes away from the simplicity and tone of traditional Chinese watercolor paintings. I think your suggestion instead could enhance the theme while better translating the style from a painting to a tattoo
