So I just got a lot of electronic components online for personal projects, and I decided to build a white noise generator to help me sleep. I started with a video but it didn't work so I just started freestyling. Well, this was a mistake because while I did get white noise, I also started hearing faint voices. Now I'm an atheist but this was the closest I've been to believing in supernatural forces.
After some more experimentation, I realized that the voices would appear whenever I touched one of the terminals of the Zener diode with my finger (I was using the zener diode as the source of noise). I tried connecting an alligator clip to the same terminal and the voices got a lot stronger.
I don't really know how it works, I don't have an oscilliscope yet, but my theory is that the zener diode plus the filters and amplifiers somehow work as a rudimentary medium running a séance and detecting the voices of souls from beyond the grave. That's my running theory at the moment.
Try a black noise generator instead. Something about the gunshots and loud rap music is quite soothing.
