Yep, can confirm.
I was raised in a strict fundamentalist church, was a good boy, got married at 21, we were both virgins.
Decided I needed to start my new household with a good biblical foundation, so we started reading a few chapters of the Bible out loud every night before bed, starting in genesis.
I had read most of the bible at some point while I was a kid, but reading it again, out loud, as an adult... Holy fuck.
Within a few months we are deep into the old testament, reading about all the genocide as the children of Israel conquered Canaan... The commands to kill every living thing, even women, children, animals...
Something deep inside clicked and I knew that I would never follow those orders, even if God himself told me to my face... For the first time in my life I began to question my faith... Luckily this was about 15 years ago, the new atheist movement was in full swing online, I started reading Dawkins, hitchens... Finally bacame an atheist after about 2 years of reading. All because I decided to read the bible.
