I was an anime only but have read the manga up to where the anime is at

I wanted to know how much context I was missing and wanted to know what they cut and holy shit. I honestly just want to know why they skipped so much, like had they adapted volume 10 - 13 it would have gone over WAY better. People liked season 1 not necessarily because of the action but because of the world building and character development.
