I suppose the title pretty much sums this post up,but I'm gonna justify it anyway.
I've been watching this show since the very beginning, and it's never actually been 'bad', but it's never, EVER been as good as it is now. When I started watching, it was just something nice to watch that tied in to the films. Now it's strictly appointment television. I haven't actually seen the last episode yet (watching in the UK where Channel 4 has decided not to air them together, so please don't spoil it!) but I don't think I've been this hyped for an episode of broadcast television (excluding Netflix shows) in a long time. The acting, writing and direction in the latest series has been phenomenonal. It might be controversial to say it, but the change to 13 episode seasons should have been made a long time ago. There's far less padding in this season which means important plot points from earlier in the season are easier to remember (I had a few 'wait where did that come from?' moments in Seasons 3 and 5). Everything is tighter and it's kept my attention a lot better. I'd like to think I don't have a short attention span, and it's just because I'm used to shorter seasons in general as British TV dramas rarely extend beyond 13 episodes.
At the moment I rank the seasons like this:
Season 6 Season 4 Season 3 tied with Season 5 Season 1 Season 2
