Cleaning a tridacna gigas (giant clam)?

Is there a safe way to clean a giant clam shell (half)? Has anyone had experience doing so? Is it even worth the risk attempting to clean?
All resources I have found online have mentioned the bleach, vinegar, and muriatic acid. I hesitate doing anything with this one before asking around and doing more research.
For reference, it's ~27" across and ~66lbs. Sorry, I don't have a banana for scale at the moment.
