Hotels for tramlines?

Me and a friend have booked tramlines weekend tickets and want to save on hotels however we can. Would a hotel in Rotherham be cheaper than in Sheffield? They're already priced up a lot and we were gonna wait till Christmas to book the hotel since we've spent a lot on the tickets this month. Any other places with good transport links to Hillsborough park that might have better hotel prices?
