New to CNC, few questions about generating G-Code (have done 3D printing for years)
Post Body
Hi
Am planning on getting a Shapoko 5 24x24, we are very active in the 3D print area while using Sketchup Pro (we pay for the license).
I understand the concepts of the Shapoko machine, it appears it has to have Carbide Motion which will feed it the G-Code (and visualize to check for dumb errors like drilling in the base). This raises a few questions...
- We use CAD (Sketchup) to create 3D print models then save them as STL and import to a slicer which will generate the printer specific G-Code which then gets squirted to the printer OR a Raspberry Pi running the code monitor (i would guess like Carbide Motion does).
- We would like to create the work in SKetchup and have the blank stock then cut path the parts we require and push this whole bit to something that would generate the G-Code, i assume this is not Carbide Motion, so what software will generate the Shapoko specific G-Code here?
- I notice Carbide Motion has a Pi version, does it still need a screen or can this all be done through a web browser? (so the Pi is headless (no screen))
Many Thanks
