Any way to make the game a little less draggy/difficult?

Honestly the game has a lot of content, lots of things to pick up/collect, a ton of side missions, and an amazing nemesis system to boot.. But playing it on-and-off is making it difficult to get into.

Its been months and I'm only 34% into the storyline. I tend to get distracted and end up doing missions that I did not need to do in order to progress the story (Orc killing can be quite satisfying).

During fights, there's so much happening and to consider (cheesing the same moves doesnt work when the captains adapt or when they have immunity/enrage by certain moves). Maybe I'm not hardcore enough to cope with it.

I started off at the difficulty above Normal, continued after a few weeks rest, and found it too difficult with multiple betrayals and non-stop fights. Changed to Normal, it was more manageable and managed to progress in the storyline a bit.

After a couple of months of neglect, I started the game up again today and have no idea what to do nor the controls. Fights are painful as I feel like I'm just not fighting efficiently and end up taking a long time fighting a couple of captains.

I know it sounds like a stupid "rant" but as a busy worker in healthcare right now, I don't have the luxury of playing more than a few hours a week (sometimes I do indulge with other games with my friends) and its a bit too difficult to keep track of the story and what I need to do next, or remember the damn controls.

Any tips for skills I should upgrade to have an easier time, and how to check which missions are part of the main story? My Talion is either at level 25/34 I can't remember right now, a few missions beyond clearing that castle and one of the previous orcs we met was the overloard.
