Logical Fallacy #3: how SGI uses "argument as repetition" to make invalid claims
Post Body

My Logical Fallacy series has not been popular here, poo! Well, I'm going to keep on going anyway :P

Today's Logical Fallacy, maybe one of the most used by SGI, is called an "argument from repetition."

" Argument from repetition refers to someone repeating a statement often in the hopes that the listener will begin to accept it as truth, instead of providing evidence. " source

The example provided by this website goes like this:

Hurtlocker deserves an Oscar. Other films have potential, but they do not deserve an Oscar like Hurtlocker does. The other movies may deserve an honorable mention but Hurtlocker deserves the Oscar.

In regards to the SGI, I am thinking that their CONSTANT repetition of how great chanting works is a good example of "argument from reptition." Though they don't necessary state the same thing about chanting over and over in the same stream of conversation. But there is no doubt that they DO repeat the idea that chanting works over and over throughout time.

"Just chant for it!"

"Did you try chanting?"

"Increase your daimoku!"

"Just try chanting for 30 days and see how it changes your life!"

"Are you chanting every day?"

So what do you think? Is this an argument of repetition or perhaps something else from this list?

Can you think of any other examples in which the SGI uses "argument from repetition"?
