I have heard quite a few of our memberships SGI stories and from what I recall, many of us here were former leaders! Now doesn't that say A LOT about the state of affairs for SGI? That so many former leaders, the people who saw all the inner workings of this "religion," have jumped ship? And not JUST jumped ship, but are actively SPEAKING OUT AGAINST this religion (cult)?
I was in SGI for not even a full year before I was asked to be my district's YWD leader. I asked what responsibilities were involved and they did tell me, though they definitely down played the amount of time/ work it would take.
This was for a district in the Boston area. I was about 27 years old at the time. I actually quite liked being a leader because I liked having control. I liked being part of the group that planned all the meetings and decided who we should ask (coerce) into doing presentations. I liked feeling important. I liked feeling like I could get people to do what I wanted. And boy could I because I am a sweet, personable, attractive young woman. The exact kind of person SGI keeps in its leadership ranks to manipulate others.
I was a leader for two years and then finally quit, thanks to being able to "see the light" through all the stories and explanations on this board for the MANY MANY MANY red flags I had already seen in the SGI.
So how about you? What leadership role did you take on (or get pushed into) in the SGI? Where and for how long (if you want to share)? What was your experience like?
