Would removing this competing leader do too much damage?
Post Body

I just bought my first house, and found this great community when trying to learn how to properly care for my trees.

I have a question I hope you can help answer:

My youngest tree (unidentified) has a large second leader near the base. My concern with removing it this leader results in almost half the tree.

Might removing the leader be too aggressive? Or am I being nervous and I'm fine pruning it?

If I do remove it, I'm also concerned the tree will remain lopsided. Are there additional steps I could take?

Thanks in advance. Great sub! Images of my beautiful, mature trees will be incoming.
