It was the kind of summer night that made you forget the clock entirely. The air was warm, but not unbearable, with just enough of a breeze to keep things interesting. I had known him for a while our paths had crossed at parties, through friends, and once or twice in passing at coffee shops. But tonight felt different.
We were both at a mutual friend's birthday gathering, tucked away on a rooftop overlooking the city lights. I had never seen him quite like this his usual laid-back, calm demeanor was replaced with a certain energy that had me noticing him in a way I hadnât before. Maybe it was the dim glow of the fairy lights above us or the way his laugh echoed across the group, but I couldnât stop watching him.
At some point, we ended up alone by the railing, talking about everything and nothing at all. The music played softly in the background, and the only real sound was the occasional chuckle or sigh between us. There was a subtle shift in the air something magnetic. My heart raced when he caught my gaze, holding it just a second too long before he looked away.
He turned to me with a smile, the one that always seemed like he knew a secret I didnât. âYou look different tonight,â he said casually, but his voice held a depth I hadnât heard before.
I smiled back, feeling the heat rise in my cheeks. âHow so?â
âThereâs a spark in your eyes,â he said, taking a step closer, closing the gap between us. His breath was warm against my skin, and I could feel his presence like a pull that I didnât want to resist. âLike you're about to do something exciting.â
I didn't know how to respond didnât need to. The air between us was thick with something unspoken, an invitation we both seemed to recognize.
In that moment, everything felt more intense. More urgent. My pulse quickened, and I could see the same flicker of desire in his eyes. The playful banter weâd shared faded into something deeper. Without thinking, I reached up to touch his arm, my fingertips brushing against the warmth of his skin.
Before I knew it, his lips were on mine gentle at first, then with increasing pressure, as if he couldnât wait any longer. The world outside that rooftop faded away, leaving only the sensation of his kiss, the heat of his body pressed close to mine.
We pulled away for a moment, breathless, both of us smiling, but the desire was still there fiercer than ever.
"Want to get out of here?" he asked, his voice low and husky, filled with that same undeniable pull.
I didnât have to think twice. âAbsolutely.â
