Thought I’d share another one from my time as a D1 athlete… As I noted the girls on my team always tended to work hard/play hard when we’d travel for games because when you’re competing all the time it’s like you gotta let off steam. There’s like a hierarchy in certain things, like which rooms you get, what numbers you get to choose and one that always held true, where you sit on the bus. As a freshman you pretty much had the leftovers or had things chosen for you as a coach. Often this is fine, you’re just kinda chillin wherever. Sometimes you get chosen to go sit in what we called the kennel. It’s a window seat, but it’s at the back of the bus. Now I figured I’m stuck there because I’m small and blond, but before the first trip the coach pulls me aside and says all freshmen have their time in the kennel, it’s an important spot that shows you’re a team player and is a way to help the upperclassmen focus so just listen to them.
