The first rays of sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains of the honeymoon suite, casting a soft, golden glow across the room. Anna stirred gently beside Ethan, the warmth of his body still radiating against hers. She smiled, remembering the previous night’s tender moment. With a contented sigh, she stretched and nestled closer to him, her fingers lightly grazing his chest.

Anna nodded.

“How about you take a shower first and I’ll pack up our stuff?” Ethan asked.

He and Anna once again looked at each other and nodded in agreement. 

“Well,” Olivia giggled, “It’s not some achievement you reach, it’s something you always have to work on.” 

Marcus nodded as he watched his wife speak. Olivia’s words were a revelation to the younger couple. They sat there silently reflecting on Olivia’s advice when Ethan once again broke the silence. 

 “What other advice do you have for keeping things fresh and exciting?”

Olivia’s eyes sparkled with a hint of mischief. “Try to surprise each other from time to time. It doesn’t have to be anything big—just small gestures that show you’re thinking of one another.”

Marcus chimed in, “And remember to keep exploring together. Whether it’s trying new things, traveling, or even exploring new things in the bedroom, staying curious and adventurous can keep the spark alive.”

Anna smiled at Ethan, feeling inspired by the conversation. “We definitely want to keep that sense of adventure in our relationship.”

Olivia raised her coffee mug in toast. “To new beginnings and a lifetime of shared adventures.”

Ethan and Anna clinked their mugs with Olivia and Marcus, feeling a renewed sense of excitement for their future. 

“So we’re obviously pretty new to the bedroom stuff. Do you mind if I ask what kind of things you and Marcus do to keep things exciting in that area?” Anna asked innocently, her face filling with red.

Marcus and Olivia looked at each other. Like they were waiting for the other to give them permission to answer. Marcus gave in first, giving Olivia a nod of approval. 

Olivia took in a deep breath before answering, “Well… About 10 years ago Marcus and I decided to explore opening up our marriage.”

Neither Anna or Ether had heard of this before. 

“Opening up?” Anna asked, “What does that mean? Like talking to other people?”

Olivia and Marcus once again look at each other. They hesitated while they tried to figure out how to answer Anna’s question. 

“Well, sweetheart, we started sleeping with other people.” Olivia said in a hushed tone.

“I mean occasionally we sleep with other people.” Olivia explained. 

“So you cheat on each other?” Ethan asked in a confused tone. 

“No. Not at all.” Marcus said. 

“Cheating is when you do it behind your spouse's back. When we sleep with other people, we let each other know. Shoot, sometimes we’re even in the same room.” Olivia explained. 

Anna and Ethan were stunned by Olivia and Marcus's revelation. 

“It’s certainly not the only way to keep things exciting. There’s tons of ways you can explore your sexuality.” Olivia explained, “Opening up our marriage was something we decided to explore, and it’s worked out for us.”

Anna and Ethan looked at each other. Each giving the other a concerned look.

“I just can’t imagine sleeping with anyone else.” Anna said, squeezing Ethan’s hand.

Olivia giggled, “Sweetie, you two just got married yesterday. I wouldn’t think this is something you two would consider.”

The entire table laughed at Olivia’s comment, but Anna and Ethan’s laughter was more to mask their nervousness than anything. 

“I enjoy seeing my wife with other people. I think it’s a beautiful thing. I really do. I love seeing her enjoying other people.” Marcus chimed in. 

“Plus I know our relationship is strong. We’re not going to leave each other.” Olivia added. 

Something clicked with Anna and Ethan. The two sat there contemplating what Marcus had just said. Fearing they’d just scared off the couple, Olivia tried to change the subject.

“Anyways, what are you two lovebirds doing for a honeymoon?” Olivia asked, breaking a long silence. 

The breakfast continued with laughter and stories, as the couples bonded over stories of their wedding. Anna and Ethan, relieved the stress of planning a wedding was behind them, enjoyed hearing about Olivia and Marcus’ wedding story. 

As the morning drew to a close, Anna and Ethan felt at peace. The talk about open marriages and sleeping with other people was in the past. Their time at the Evergreen Inn had provided not only a beautiful start to their married life but also valuable insights into building a strong and lasting marriage.

Ethan and Anna left the Evergreen Inn and checked off a todo list. They first went to Anna’s parents house to drop off their wedding clothes and pick up the bags for their honeymoon. Then they drove to pick up the car they were going to use on their road trip.

“That’s fair.” Anna said, crossing her arms and looking out the window. 

The conversation ended there. The two newlyweds continued their drive to Chicago. Around 8pm they arrived at the famous Serenity Suites. It was a luxurious hotel with modern finishes. They had read online that the hotel had a spa that got wonderful reviews from guests, especially couples. They planned on spending the next day at the spa and then leaving early the following morning.
