“December ‘99, Union Square, book signing” - who’s book signing?

Carrie says she’s worn the Cavalli shirt for a book signing and I always wondered what that meant? She didn’t have any book published then.
The other option is that she went to some other author’s book signing, but then most people would say “so-and-so’s book signing”.
I have to figure this out! It’s been bugging me for years.
P.S. fun fact - the top couldn’t have been worn in 1999 because it’s from F/W 2001
