Why does a Brazilian character, played by a Brazilian actress, have a Spanish name and a Spanish accent? Why does North-America ALWAYS get us wrong?

It was the same thing in Fast And Furious 5. At least they're not portraying us as generic black capoeirists with dread locks. We are a very mixed country with mostly Caucasian people, we got cold snowy weather, we got big cities with ZERO slums and poverty, we got fucking redheads and Asians, and when we speak English we speak ENGLISH, not English with some words in our language. And our language is PORTUGUESE. Brazilian Portuguese to be exact, which is different from Portugal's. We got so much wealth and we're not just SĂŁo Paulo and Rio. But people in the rest of the world always seem to think we're some kind of drug cartel shithole in a Spanish colony in Africa and I blame Hollywood the most for spreading these wrong stereotypes about us.

The way you describe Brazil is very white-centric and elitist and quite frankly has a tone of disdain for people living in poverty as well for Black people. They’re not called “dread locks” this was something English colonizers used to describe the “dreadful locks” of Afro hair. They’re simply called locs. I understand your frustration, but this take ain’t it.
