Hot Take: Mr. Big is unfairly painted as a villain (in early seasons), here's why: the facts from season 1 and 2
Post Body

Mr. Big is often painted as the villain or bad guy. If you pay close attention, away from the bias narrative of Carrie and friends, and based exclusively on facts and behavior -- I think this could be unfair. Here are the objective facts to why I believe he's actually reasonable, consistent, and calculated.

(1) Samantha tries to pursue Mr. Big in ep1 s1 - She states to Carrie, "You see that guy? He's the next Donald Trump . Except he's younger and much better looking." She then goes over to Big and shoots her shot, essentially suggesting they go upstairs to have sex in a private room. He very politely shoots her down, showing he's interested in something more substantive than petty thrills.

(2) Mr. Big is a millionaire, apparently many times over, but in the entirety of season 1 and 2, he never alludes to his wealth, his prominence, or anything else that's self-promoting. In fact, he's just kinda there, hanging out with Carrie, making jokes and cheeky one liners, having a good time. He doesn't seem to take himself or his status too seriously.

(3) We learn Big is a divorcee, and IMO he is fairly honest about the circumstances and nature of his divorce. This is likely why he is hesitant on remarrying, or moving too quickly in relationships, which he's consistently and respectfully conveying to Carrie.

(4) Big is incredibly patient with Carrie, even though she shows her flaws which could make her a bad partner many times over. In S2, Carrie punches Big in the face after he accidentally pushes her out of bed while sleeping, and he just walks out, frustrated, but still patient. He also starts being more public with their relationship in S2, and he invites her to a work event, where she's caught in an embarrassing moment with a service worker in a secluded area (he's showing him a tattoo located under the belt), by the host of the party. The host then tells Big, and Big politely confronts Carrie, stating she's embarrassing him and to please stop. She's frustrated by this and walks off, and Big maturely let's her be. The next day, he calls her to address the tension, respectfully, while Carrie's in bed with another man.

Personally, this is my 5th time watching SATC. I started watching in my 20's, and was in love with Carrie. Now, pushing into my late 30's, and wanting to be married myself, Im seeing things completely different, and wanted to share a different method for analyzing Big's behavior.
