How to enjoy fingering

I am a woman, and I've never enjoyed fingering. I like the "come hither" one where I use my middle and ring fingers (it feels good but doesn't do much) but I don't like regular fingering where I'm finger-fucking myself. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I don't enjoy by myself, and I definitely didn't like when an ex tried it. My boyfriend wants to finger me but he knows that I won't enjoy it. Is there a way to make it more enjoyable and actually feel something?
