Can I repair a zip by myself?

Post Body

Hi there! I'm a beginner sewer, I have a very basic knowledge in sewing like types of stitches and which stitch is best for what. I recently broke the zip on my favorite coat and I haven't gotten it repaired in months because I'm not willing to shell out the money for a repair. I'd much rather learn to do it myself because it's a useful skill and also cheaper. All id have to do is buy the appropriate zip for it, as I already have a good sewing kit.

What I've come to ask really is how easy is it to repair a whole zipper on a coat? The coat is quite long and quite thick as it has some padding. The most I've done in repairs before is holes, embroidery and putting buttons and clasps on. Any help or advice would be appreciated!!
