sennheiser hd 450bt pairing issue

Headphones have been working great but all of a sudden won’t pair with any device. Can see them pop up on Bluetooth devices on my iPhone but when I click on them it just comes up as ‘pairing unsuccessful’. Sam thing happens on my wife’s phone.
Have tried to factory reset but not sure that is working either and can’t get it to a point where the LED flashes purple.
Really like these and can’t really afford to replace. Tips, tricks and advice welcome!
