Tell me everything there is to know about adopting a 12+ year old cat

So I recently fostered a 3 month old kitten and I loved him to pieces but after having him for about 2 months, I realized that a kitten wasn’t for me. To no fault of his own, it just wouldn’t work out with my work schedule. I wasn’t going to be able to give him the love, care, and attention that a kitten needs.
I came across a 12 year old cat from the same rescue and I am in love. What to expect? Please share everything and anything.
