So my peanut head is about to be 16, and she's been having some issues with her food. We've had to move multiple times in the past few months, which was really stressful. She acted like this once before recently, when we had a dog staying with us, and I took her to the vet who checked her out and said everything was fine medically and it was anxiety. Gave her some meds for that and she was fine once the dog was gone.
Ever since I got her as a kitten, she's been a frequent grazer and a social eater. She only eats 2-3 bites of food at a time, and wants me to walk her to her food bowl and watch her eat. This wasn't so bad with dry food, but it's a colossal pain in the ass with wet food and she completely refuses dry food now.
She starts crying or staring at me because she wants me to watch her eat. Keep in mind, she'll have plenty of wet food out, but she wants me sitting next to her petting her or talking to her while she eats. I don't mean within eyesight; I mean I have to be right next to her or she'll refuse to eat. She typically wants a snack 1-2 times an hour. But then she's decided that her food that's been sitting out for 30 minutes is "stale" so I have the give her a fresh bite even though it's from the exact same can as the other food. Sometimes if I play with her food, that's sufficient. I try to only give her one bite at a time so we don't waste food, but then she wants to leave a little bit for an emergency snack. So she'll take her 2-3 bites then leave a bite or two behind for later. That she won't eat because it's stale. Oh, unless I've just put out a different type of wet food because sometimes she'll refuse to eat certain flavors at certain times. It'll be fine for breakfast but not dinner. When this happens, she'll eat the "stale" food then ignore her new food. Until the new food gets "stale", then she wants a fresh bite of that.
She's driving me absolutely insane. I can't remember the last time I slept through the night because she just. Won't. Freaking. EAT! I'm on the verge of tears nearly 24/7. I just can't stand this. The anxiety medication doesn't agree with her so that does nothing. Her weight is absolutely fine so she's getting plenty of calories. The vet checked her out and said it's basically just her being anxious/bored, but she's lazy as hell and won't play like ever. This is literally all she wants to do--sleep until she eats a bite of food.
What do I do? I'm completely at my wits end. The sleep deprivation is seriously, seriously affecting me, and frankly it's affecting our bond because she's so obnoxious. Please help!
