I'm at a weird place in my life. To keep it brief, I'm in my 20s visually impaired and after being let go from my job, moving back home, writing feels like the only consistent way I can earn money. Not that it's my only skill but it's what got me by through my university days. Since then I've had other jobs of course, but they had little upward mobility, and my last job really knocked the wind from my sails.
I am finishing up editing with a manuscript and while I don't have the capital to pay 1k for art, I'm also unsure if it will be approachable to a Western audience. So much of my prior success has been in the Chinese speaking market that I'm not sure whether it' will make more than a handful of sales. It's a fairly standard fantasy battle couple type of work.. but does that sell? I don't know. I know it did decent numbers on CN platforms but those are not the market I'm targeting. My friends in Taipei are encouraging but they're also my friends.
I know that making a career out of writing isn't guaranteed, that this is highly unstable and so on, so forth. My goal is to just be able to support myself, as social services don't seem willing to help me find employment..
